Ensure that your Excel data is formatted correctly.To import data from a Microsoft Excel file, do the following:

Create a Trial Balance in the binder for the client and set up the necessary current and prior-year columns.Create a client folder and a binder for the client whose trial balance data you want to import.Importing Trial Balance Data from Excel Filesīefore importing trial balance data from Microsoft® Excel®, do the following: Click the 'V' to select the column type and click Next.Select the number of prior periods, if applicable, and click Next.In the Trial Balance, go to the Engagement or Workpaper Manager ribbon and click Import > Import Conversion Wizard.The credits should be differentiated with a minus sign (-) or in brackets.Verify that debits and credits are in one column.Check for errors and invalid characters in the data.For example, the third column is the current year unadjusted and the fourth column is the prior period balance, etc.Note which columns contain which type of information.Remove any page breaks and rows used as separators, headings, and subtotals.

The easiest method is to highlight the entire trial balance and sort it by account number in ascending order.

Put account numbers in contiguous rows.

Open the file in Microsoft Excel, or a text editor for ASCII files, and follow these rules: Preparing ASCII or Microsoft Excel Data to Import into a Trial Balanceīefore you import the trial balance data into Engagement or Workpaper Manager, you must format it so that it can be read by Engagement or Workpaper Manager. See the documentation from your accounting system for instructions. Otherwise, save the data as an ASCII file using an export, save-as, or print-to-file command. Export the data into a spreadsheet (e.g., Microsoft Excel) if such an option is available. In the accounting system that you are working with, generate a trial balance with the setup you want to export.

How to create a binder package in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager.Įngagement or Workpaper Manager requires the Account number and Account description columns from the accounting system.

The binder package can serve as a backup of the binder if any steps need to be 'undone.' As a precaution, it is strongly recommended to create a binder package of the binder being edited prior to attempting the following steps.
